Our First iPhone Application Milestone

October 16 / Dirigo

Dirigo has just launched a pre-apha release of a new Apple iPhone application for VingIt LLC.  VingIt is owned by Raphael DiLuzio, Ivan Sokolovich and I.  You’ll hear more about VingIt over the coming months as the business comes together.  The VingIt project started in June 2009 and marks our push into building a communications tool based on the principals of social networking and game theory. The project has pushed our team into new technical areas:

Objective-C - a reflective, object-oriented programming language, which adds Smalltalk-style messaging to the C programming language. Objective-C is used primarily on Apple's Mac OS X and iPhone OS.

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) - an application programming interface in the .NET Framework for building connected, service-oriented applications.

Representational state transfer (REST) - a style of software architecture developed in parallel to the HTTP/1.1 protocol for distributed hypermedia systems such as the World Wide Web.

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) - a lightweight computer data interchange format. It is a text-based, human-readable format for representing simple data structures and associative arrays (called objects).

Congratulations team!  The pre-alpha release is a major milestone and marks hundreds of hours of effort.  Don’t expect to see the VingIt application anytime soon.  We picked a giant.  I like to say, if you’re going to swim, start by swimming the English Channel.  Think BIG.  Needless to say, we’re in the deep end of the pool.   More to come…
